Joe Poio

Joe Poio, a thirty-year member of the Indianapolis Symphonic Band, was appointed Resident Conductor in December, 1998 and was designated Conductor in October, 2001. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music Education from Butler University. He currently works with the Delaware Community School Corporation in Muncie as Director of Bands at Muncie Southside High School.. He served as Director of Bands and Music Department Chairman for the Noblesville High School Corporation for nine years and was Director of Bands for Pendleton Heights High School for eight years. Concert organizations under Poio's direction have received over 60 First Division Superior ratings at the Indiana State School Music Association Festivals.

Mr. Poio works as an adjudicator for the Indiana State School Music Association. He has twice conducted the symphonic band for the Ball State University Mid-America Band Clinic and served as interim director of the Butler University Symphonic Band. For more than a decade he has organized the Indiana State Fair Band Day. He has also been a clinician and guest conductor for middle school band festivals in Central Indiana.

In addition to his teaching and administrative duties, Mr. Poio maintains an active performance schedule with various civic, community and professional organizations. He was Principal Clarinetist with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra for eleven years. Mr. Poio has performed a double clarinet concerto for clarinets and orchestra with David Bellman of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and has played in back-up orchestras for the Disney Symphonic Fantasy and the Moody Blues at Deer Creek Music Center. He currently serves on the Indiana State School Music Association Board of Directors.

Indianapolis Chamber Winds
Darin Sorley

Darin Sorley is Conductor of the Indianapolis Chamber Winds. Mr. Sorley is currently Adjunct Instructor of Horn at the University of Indianapolis and director of the chamber music institute for high school students held each summer at that university. He was appointed principal horn of the Richmond, Indiana Symphony Orchestra in 2004. He has performed as an extra with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and several other regional orchestras. Mr. Sorley previously taught horn and brass pedagogy at the University of Evansville and Southwest Missouri State University.

Mr. Sorly holds degrees from Butler University (B.M.E.), the Cleveland Institute of Music (M.M. in Horn Performance) and has comleted the course work towards a Doctorate of Brass Pedagogy degree at Indiana University. He is the owner of Sorley's Horn Shop, specializing in the repair and reconstruction of horns and trumpets. He is married to Dr. Rebecca Sorley (pianist) and together they have three children.

Jane Dobson Poio

Jane Dobson Poio is the leader of The Barton Rogers Big Band. Jane is a longtime member of the sax section of BRBB as well as a 31 year member of the Indianapolis Symphonic Band in the first clarinet section. Her jazz experience includes 20 years with the New Ventures Jazz Band in Indianapolis, the Normal City Music Company in Muncie, and jazz studies with Dr. John Spicknall at Indiana State University. In addition, Jane is an adjudicator for solo and jazz music contests and has performed in the past with the Carmel Symphony and with theater musical productions. Jane is a music teacher with the Indianapolis Public Schools.
