
Mr. Poio works as an adjudicator for the Indiana State School Music Association’s solo & ensemble contests, concert organization contests, state concert band qualifications contest, and is manager for ISSMA District and Regional marching band festivals. He is also a member of the Central States Judges Association, and has judged marching band contests in Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Illinois, Ohio, and Indiana. He has twice conducted the symphonic band for the Ball State University Mid-America Band Clinic and served as interim director of the Butler University Symphonic Band. He was coordinator of the Indiana State Fair Band Day Contest from 1988 to 2006. In addition to his teaching and administrative duties, Mr. Poio maintains an active performance schedule with various civic, community and professional organizations. He was Principal Clarinetist with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra for eleven years, and performed a double concerto for clarinets and orchestra with David Bellman of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. He has played in back-up orchestras for the Disney Symphonic Fantasy and the Moody Blues. He served on the Indiana State School Music Association Board of Directors from 1995 to 2007, is music director for the New Ventures Jazz Band, and is conductor of the Indianapolis Symphonic Band, a position he has held since 1998. |
